The department of Semitic and Eastern Languages was established in 2000 as an independent department in the college of Arts. The department offers an undergraduate in Semitic (Hebrew) and Eastern (Persian) Languages with a minor in Turkish. The department of Semitic and Eastern Languages is one of it is kind in the region; it provides the Jordan and the Arab World with the needed professionals specialized in Semitic and Eastern languages. The department has 15 faculty members including 5 associate professors, 2 assistant professors and 7 lecturers and 1 teaching assistant.
Our vision is to be distinguished, locally and regionally, in our faculty members, projects and curriculum. The department also plans to establish a Master’s in Hebrew and Persian literature and language and an undergraduate in Turkish.
Our mission is to excel in teaching, conducting research and helping the community by preparing professionals who master scientific research skills and are able to cope up with the recent development and to compete in the regional and local market.
