The Department of Geography celebrated the GISDay with collaboration with InforGraph and SurveyTEQ by inviting 29 10th graders to teach them about GIS and the geoinformatics and its roles in many disciplines. Dr.Reem Al-Kharouf, the head of the department, spoke to the participants and welcomed them. She stated that this event is a good example of the cooperation between the University and local community. She advised these students to major in applied sciences such as Geography and mentioned that Geography as a disicipline and GIS in particular might offer them great opportunities in their future careers. The coordinator and the head of the organizing committee, Dr. Rana Jawarneh also explained the goals of this celebration and inclusion of school students, announcing that this Day will be an annual tradition and the department is looking forward to expanding the level of participation by inviting more companies and speakers. Many activities were held ranging from lectures by InfoGraph and SurveyTeq into Geocaching activities. At the end of the event, the participants were recognized by Dean of the Faculty of Arts. InfoGraph and SurveyTEQ also distributed goody bags for the students.
